Course Descriptions

PADM 5000 Public Administration (3)

This course examines the foundations of public administration through its history and current applications in the field, exploring both principles and problems. There is an additional course fee of $42.

PADM 5800 Public Management and Leadership (3)

This course examines the functions and responsibilities of management and leadership practices in public service organizations through the application of theories and behaviors on various stakeholders, including motivations for change and development.聽

PADM 5820 Public Research Design and Analysis (3)

This course examines methods in research design and analysis of public policy and organizations, including the evaluation and application of credible information.

PADM 5830 Public Law and Ethics (3)

This course debates public service values both ethically and legally, including in decision making and professional responsibility.聽

PADM 5840 Public Budget and Finance (3)

This course analyzes public budgeting at all levels of government, including the relationship of the budget to fiscal policy and public finance practices and applications.聽

PADM 5850 Public Data Design and Analysis (3)

This course introduces foundational quantitative design and data analysis through applied descriptive and inferential statistics, data management principles, sampling designs, survey methodologies, and simple experimental and quasi-experimental designs, including integrating assessment methods and tools used by public administrators in data analytics and visualizations for decision making in public policy and organizations.聽

PADM 5870 Public Human Resource Management (3)

This course examines the principles and practices of human resource management in public service through various diverse and inclusive stakeholders, including conflict and dispute resolution integration.

PADM 5880 Issues in Public Administration (3)

Current and significant issues in public administration are examined. The course focuses on existing theories and practices, with emphasis given to new and emerging topics in the field. May be repeated for credit if content differs.

PADM 5890 Public Policy (3)

The student examines public policy and its implications both economically and socially, including in sustainable development.聽

PADM 6000 Integrated Studies in Public Administration (3)

The student is expected to synthesize and integrate the learning experiences acquired in public administration and to evaluate the research and current topics relative to this major. Techniques used to accomplish these goals may vary. There is an additional course fee of $42.聽Prerequisite: Completion of all other required courses in this major.

PADM 6500 Public Service Internship (3)

This course is designed to enhance the graduate public administration curriculum. Along with a faculty internship coordinator, students play an instrumental role in creating an experience that blends coursework knowledge with practical knowledge by working with a host organization under the supervision of a qualified professional. All work performed for the purpose of satisfying the requirements of the internship program must in some way relate to the field of public service. May be repeated once for credit. Prerequisites: Completion of at least 12 credit hours and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

PADM 9950 Travel in Public Administration (3)

Current and significant issues in public administration are examined. The course focuses on existing theories and practices, with emphasis given to new and emerging topics in the field. This course includes a mandatory travel component. An additional course fee applies based upon travel. May be repeated for credit if content differs.
