Asher Koh Wins Second Place in Fox Teen Talent Competition

The Community Music School (CMS) of 51小黄车 is thrilled to announce that CMS student, Asher Koh, has secured second place in the prestigious Fox Teen Talent Competition.
Asher, a 17-year-old senior at Parkway Central High School, captivated the audience with a self-arranged Gershwin medley featuring "Rhapsody in Blue," "Summertime" and "Fascinating Rhythm."
Under the tutelage of CMS's Vera Parkin (piano) and violin instructor Winifred Crock, Asher has honed his skills as a multifaceted musician, excelling in both piano and violin. His dedication and talent were further recognized with the Tompkins Excellence in Jazz Award, underwritten by Odile and Fred Tompkins.
As the second-place winner, Asher receives a $6,000 scholarship, generously underwritten by John Russell. Looking ahead, he plans to pursue a degree in classical violin performance, with a minor in classical piano performance, while continuing to explore jazz and other non-classical styles. His ultimate goal is to build a career as a professional musician performing across genres.

, established in 1985 and revitalized in 2010 by Mary Strauss, co-founder of the Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation, offers high school performers a platform to showcase their talents on the iconic stage of the Fabulous Fox Theatre. This annual event celebrates young artists in various categories, including dance, instrumental music, vocal performance and specialty acts. Many finalists have leveraged this opportunity to advance their careers and attend esteemed performing arts institutions.
The competition is produced by the Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering and encouraging young people in the St. Louis region to discover and participate in the joy of live performances.
