The Community Music School (CMS) of 51小黄车 congratulates faculty member
Laura Holzen on receiving the prestigious Hall of Fame Award from the St. Louis Suburban MMEA District 5. This esteemed recognition honors her
exceptional contributions to music education in the St. Louis area and her unwavering
dedication to inspiring young musicians.
Holzen鈥檚 impact on music education spans decades. A retired elementary strings teacher and orchestra director for the Rockwood School District, she has influenced countless students and educators through her expertise and passion for teaching. In January, she conducted the St. Louis Suburban Music Educators Association鈥檚 6th Grade Honors Orchestra, continuing her tradition of nurturing young talent.
Her legacy extends across multiple school districts, including Parkway, Fort Zumwalt and St. Charles Community College, where she shaped the musical journeys of many students and supported fellow educators. Those who nominated her for the Hall of Fame Award spoke highly of her inspiring presence and remarkable contributions:
鈥淟aura has been an outstanding educator in the St. Louis and St. Charles areas for many years, and though she is now retired, the absolute joy she exudes and inspires when she works with students is still apparent when she works with groups like SLSMEA鈥檚 6th Grade Honor Orchestra. Her drive to get the best from her students, and the excellent support she has given to those of us who strive to do as well as her, is boundless.鈥
Currently, Holzen serves as the Artistic Coordinator for the CMS Preparatory Program (Prep), the pinnacle of the CMS sequential music education curriculum. The program offers students the opportunity to engage in chamber music ensembles, receive high-caliber instruction from professional musicians and explore advanced repertoire. In addition to rigorous performance training, students benefit from music theory instruction and special guest artist events, fostering their growth as well-rounded musicians.
CMS is incredibly proud of her and grateful for her continued dedication to music education. Her passion, expertise, and commitment to shaping young musicians make her a truly deserving recipient of the Hall of Fame Award. Congratulations, Ms. Holzen!
